復活節(jié)中美國人的食品很有特點，多以羊肉和火腿為主。據(jù)傳說，有一次上帝為考驗亞伯拉罕的忠誠之心，命令他把獨生子以撒殺掉作祭品，亞伯拉罕萬分痛苦，最后，他還是決定按上帝的旨意去做。就在他舉刀砍向兒子的一瞬，上帝派天使阻止了他。亞伯拉罕便將一只公羊為祭獻給了上帝。以后，用羊作祭品祭祀上帝就成了該節(jié)的習俗。
吃火腿的習慣，據(jù)說是英國移民帶入的。當初，英國人用吃火腿表示對猶太人禁忌肉食品內(nèi)含血的蔑視；今天，已發(fā)展成復活節(jié)的傳統(tǒng)食物。不過，人們在復活節(jié)期間依然經(jīng)常吃復活節(jié)罐頭。
